Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine the phobias of catching the corona virus and the attitudes of the athletes towards the covid-19 vaccine. In line with the determined purpose, the research was carried out in accordance with the general survey model in the type of quantitative research. Sample selection was made according to convenient sampling method. While the athletes in Turkey constitute the universe of the research; The sample consisted of a total of 340 athletes, 202 men and 138 women, aged between 18 and 35, who wanted to voluntarily participate in the research. In the study, together with the demographic variables form prepared by the researchers in accordance with the purpose of the research and containing descriptive information about the participants, the "New Type of Coronavirus (Covid-19) Anxiety Level of Athletes Scale" developed by Tekkurşun-Demir et al. (2020), the “Attitudes Towards Covid-19 Vaccine Scale” was used as the basic data collection tools. Data analysis was done in SPSS 22.0 statistical package program for Windows. In the study, the statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. According to the results of the statistical analysis of the data obtained from the research; While it was determined that the mean score of the Covid-19 phobia scale total score and the mean score of the Covid-19 phobia individual anxiety sub-dimension showed a significant difference according to the status of the athletes participating in the study to catch Covid-19 (p<0.05); It was determined that the mean score of the socialization anxiety sub-dimension of Covid-19 phobia did not show a significant difference (p>0.05). Moreover; A moderately strong and positively significant relationship was determined between the Covid-19 phobia values of the athletes participating in the study, their total attitude values towards the Covid-19 vaccine and their positive attitude towards the Covid-19 Vaccine (p<0.01). No significant relationship was found between the Covid-19 phobia values of the athletes participating in the study and the negative attitudes towards the Covid-19 vaccine (p>0.05). As a result; It can be said that the Covid-19 phobias of the athletes can affect their attitudes towards the Covid-19 vaccine.
