Obesity is generally dependent on two factors; It is a serious and persistent disease. These factors can be divided into hereditary and environmental. Obesity develops due to the presence of a much higher level of fat layer and tissue than exists in the human body and has more than one factor. The most important factors of obesity; inactivity, nutrition and eating and drinking habits, insufficient physical activity, age, gender, marital status, number of births and heredity. Obesity, which is transmitted to individuals not only after birth but also genetically, is spreading rapidly day by day. Although it is mostly seen in developing and developed countries, it is possible to encounter obesity in almost every area in the world. Obesity, which is seen over 30% in Turkey, is a pandemic case today. In addition, obesity should be examined not only within its own framework, but also with many chronic diseases that it brings with it. For this reason, knowing where obesity affects and harms in the human body will accelerate the treatment process and help to get good results. In this study, literature review method was used. In the introduction, what obesity is and some data published by the World Health Organization are given. In the second part, the factors that are effective in the formation of obesity are discussed and their effects on the quality of life, in the third part, obesity is examined within the framework of Turkey and the world, and in the fourth part, the measures that can be taken to prevent obesity are mentioned.
