Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the anaerobic power and strength parameters of athletes engaged in the sports disciplines of wrestling and boxing.Materials and Methods: A total of 72 male athletes voluntarily participated in this study from two different sports disciplines (Wrestling n: 36, Boxing n: 36) with an average age of 21.44 years, who were actively engaged in sports. Measurements were taken using a Monark brand leg Wingate ergometer and Takei brand hand and back dynamometers. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Hasan DOĞAN School of Physical Education and Sports at Karabük University. IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software was used for statistical analysis. Differences between groups were tested using Independent Student's t-test. The significance level for all analyses was set at p < 0.05.Results: There was no statistically significant difference observed between athletes in terms of back strength and average power values. When right grip and left grip strengths were examined, individuals involved in boxing sport were found to have statistically higher values, whereas in terms of peak power levels, wrestlers were found to have statistically higher values (p <0.05).Conclusion: The determination of anaerobic power and strength parameters, which are among the most crucial indicators of performance, has influenced the differences in performance and skill levels between the groups, thus affecting the outcome of the study. Consequently, the power and strength values among the disciplines have been revealed.
